According to Garden Tour Chair Alice Calhoun, the gardens on the 2020 Garden Tour will be spectacular: “We have a many new gardens and one favorite estate garden that has not been on the tour in many years.. Town Tour gardens often are either lovely cottage gardens or river-view gardens. Country Tour estate gardens tend to be much larger than Town Tour gardens and have different elements and features.” Calhoun continues, “To get an overview of the beauty of Hermann’s gardens, visit www.hermanngardentours.com, our website. On our website, you will see gardens that have been on previous tours. And you will be amazed.”
The ever-popular Demonstration area will return in 2020 at the Deutschheim State Historic Site. There will be information about crop rotation, companion planting, and heirloom plants. This is a not-to-be-missed garden. Visitors who arrive before Garden Tour ticket sales begin can stop by Deutschheim for a quick visit before the Ticket Sales begin at the Welcome Center.
On the Saturday evening of the Tour, a Garden Party Celebration will be held from 6-9 PM at the Historic Hermann Rotunda, and everyone is invited. There will be a silent auction with delicious and filling hors d’oeuvres. This event is BYOB. Reservations are desired by May 25, 2020, but all are welcome to just drop in and enjoy. Hermann, named “the most beautiful city in Missouri” and a Missouri DREAM city, has many wineries, over 60 bed and breakfasts inns, many antique and specialty shops, and galleries. Plan to spend the night and spread the tour over both days.
Garden Club President Jane Wuebbens urges local people to support these events since “Funds raised at the Garden Tour and at the Garden Party are used for civic beautification and scholarships for local students. Out of town guests are welcome at both events, and we hope to have many Hermann residents as well. We have some amazing auction items.” One of the newest projects is the Tree Project to which the Hermann Garden Club has contributed $5000 to plant trees in Lower City Park. If you would like infomation about jointing the Hermann Garden Club, contact Jane at (573) 236-4449.
